Krystyna Piszkowa:
Krystyna Piszkowa: Winning the title of Miss World is more than just wearing a crown; it is a huge responsibility. Reigning Miss World Krystyna Piszkowa echoes the sentiments of her predecessor Caroline Bielawska, who was the longest reigning Miss World due to the pandemic. Bielawska once said, “The crown is not an accessory, but a responsibility.” Piszkowa completely agrees and believes in using this platform to bring about real change.
A platform for purpose and change
Krystyna Piszkowa, who was in Hyderabad to inaugurate the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant, emphasised that the event, to be held between May 10 and May 31, will be held at various culturally significant locations in Telangana. She believes that Miss World provides an unmatched platform to support causes that really matter.
“Being Miss World is a huge responsibility,” she added. “This platform gives us so many opportunities to promote meaningful causes. It would be a shame if we didn’t use it to connect with people and help them.” Strong commitment to education Like Bielawska, Piszkowa has also made education her primary goal, working tirelessly to make education accessible to underprivileged children. However, her journey didn’t start after winning Miss World 2024; it began several years earlier, in 2020, when she was living in Tanzania. By July 2022, after being crowned Miss Czech Republic, she had already founded a fully equipped school together with a team of like-minded individuals. Today, this institution benefits 320 children, providing them with the education they previously didn’t have access to. This mission laid the foundation for her Miss World journey and remains at the core of her work. Redefining ‘beauty with purpose’
Miss World Limited chairperson Julia Morley acknowledged the importance of empowering women like Piszkowa. She credited the Miss World platform for redefining the concept of ‘beauty with purpose’ and emphasised her efforts to eliminate conventions that hindered contestants’ confidence, such as the swimsuit round.
“I didn’t really do anything,” said Morley. “I just created a safe space for them to express themselves. They are the ones who make the change.”
While Morley applauds the confidence of today’s young women, Piszkowa revealed that confidence was something she had to develop over time.
The journey to confidence
Growing up, Krystyna Piszkowa struggled with her self-image due to her height. “I didn’t feel like there was anything special about me,” she admitted. However, her travels from an early age changed her perspective, eventually leading her to pursue a career in modelling.
After signing her first modelling contract at just 14, she initially found no particular purpose in the industry, but she gained invaluable life skills. “Modelling taught me independence. Every time I went to a new country, I learned to take care of myself and gained different perspectives from around the world,” she explained.
Self-love as a basis for change
Krystyna Piszkowa believes that self-love is the basis for personal and social change. “You have to start loving and helping yourself before you can help and love others,” she said.
Her journey of self-discovery and empowerment enabled her to inspire others. “Once I believed I could lead and speak up for others, it became easier to convince others to do the same,” she said.
A Lifetime Impact
Krystyna Piszkowa is fully aware that her work does not end with her reign as Miss World. She affirmed, “Once you are Miss World, you are always Miss World. The impact is lifelong.” She is committed to expanding her educational initiatives in both Tanzania and her home country of the Czech Republic. “Now that the doors have opened, I just have to get my head down and get to work,” she concluded.
