New GST Reforms from Nov 1: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has unveiled a new wave of GST reforms effective from November 1, promising simplified registration, faster approvals, and a more taxpayer-friendly system.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new CGST office in Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), Sitharaman announced that small, low-risk businesses and public sector enterprises will now receive GST registration approval within just three working days. The move aims to promote ease of doing business and encourage honest tax compliance.

The Finance Minister praised the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) for its proactive efforts in implementing these next-generation GST measures, calling them “reforms that will be remembered for the next 100 years.

Sitharaman emphasized that the next phase of GST is not only about rates and slabs but also about changing the taxpayer experience. She urged officials to use technology-driven processes to make compliance smoother and to treat taxpayers with empathy and respect.

“Taxpayers should not be overworked,” she said, adding that the focus should be on simplifying processes and ensuring efficient grievance redressal through GST Seva Kendras.

While stressing politeness and respect, the Finance Minister made it clear that enforcement will remain strong. She warned against fake invoices, bogus ITC claims, and corrupt practices, saying,

“If you do wrong, there will be no mercy. If you do right, there will be no hostility.”

Calling out the “black sheep” within the system, she urged strict disciplinary action and impartial investigations against erring officials to protect the reputation of CBIC and restore trust among taxpayers.

Sitharaman also highlighted the importance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for fair and transparent governance. “Punish the bad actors,” she said, “but don’t treat every taxpayer with suspicion.”

According to data from the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Diwali 2025 witnessed record-breaking sales worth ₹6.05 lakh crore, a 25% rise over 2022. About 87% of goods sold were made in India, reflecting strong domestic demand fueled by reduced GST rates.

The festive season also generated an estimated 5 million temporary jobs across logistics, transportation, packaging, and retail sectors — a clear sign of economic vibrancy.

Sitharaman concluded by urging officials to adopt a visionary and problem-solving approach. “Don’t wait for guidelines,” she said. “Next-generation GST should make taxpayers feel respected — not suspected.”
