NPCI’s Big Step: Payment Requests to Stop

From October 1, 2025, NPCI will put an end to this loophole by disabling payment requests on UPI apps. This means scammers will no longer be able to misuse this feature to trick people into sending money.

This move is expected to significantly reduce cases of fraudulent UPI transactions and bring more trust to digital payments.


Major Updates in UPI Lite for More Convenience

Along with enhancing security, NPCI has also made important changes to UPI Lite, the lightweight version of UPI designed for small-value transactions. UPI Lite works like a prepaid wallet within the UPI ecosystem, making daily transactions faster and simpler.

  1. Wallet Limit Increased
    • Earlier, users could store up to ₹2,000 in UPI Lite.
    • Now, this limit has been increased to ₹5,000.

    • The per-transaction limit has been increased from ₹500 to ₹1,000.
    • This allows users to make slightly bigger payments without needing to reload frequently.
  3. Auto Top-Up Feature Introduced
    • Users can now set an auto top-up option.
    • Whenever the wallet balance drops below a set amount, it will be automatically recharged, eliminating the need for manual top-ups.
