YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia Issues apologises : Mumbai has been at the centre of a heated controversy after an FIR was filed against YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, comedian Samay Raina, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija and organisers of the show India’s Got Talent for making inappropriate comments about parents and women. The case was registered at the Khar police station following a complaint by Bombay High Court lawyer Ashish Rai.

Ranveer Allahabadia apologises after criticism

Ranveer Allahabadia, known for his motivational content, has apologised on social media after facing widespread criticism. He admitted that his comments were inappropriate and not funny, saying:

“My comment was inappropriate. It wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my style. I just want to apologise. Many people asked if I would use my platform in this way; my answer is that I would absolutely not use my platform in this way. I don’t want to justify my words. I just want to apologise. I made a mistake in judgement. What I said was not nice. I have asked the makers to remove the insensitive part of the video. Maybe you can forgive me in the name of humanity.”

Controversial episode of India’s Got Talent

The controversial episode aired on YouTube on February 8, 2025 and quickly gained attention due to its bold content. Hosted by stand-up comedian Samay Raina, the show is known for its sharp humour and has over 7.3 million subscribers. Reports suggest that the comments made during the episode were quite offensive, especially towards women and parents, which prevented them from being mentioned in the mainstream media.

India’s Got Latent has over 20 million views per episode, with judges rotating apart from Samay Raina and Balraj Ghai. The contestants are given 90 seconds to showcase their talent, but this particular episode sparked outrage due to the alleged obscene content.

Ranveer Allahabadia’s connection to PM Modi’s National Creators Award

Amid the controversy, many pointed out that Ranveer Allahabadia was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the National Creators Award held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi in 2024. He received the Disruptor of the Year award, an honour that is now being investigated due to his involvement in the recent controversy.

Statement by CM Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the controversy, saying:

“I have received information about this. However, I have neither seen nor heard the show. It has come to light that the show is being run in an obscene manner, which is absolutely wrong. Everyone has freedom of expression, but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the rights of someone else. This is not acceptable. We have set rules for obscenity and if someone crosses those limits, action will be taken.”

Complaint by Advocate Ashish Rai

Advocate Ashish Rai, who filed the complaint, while speaking to the media said:

“The video of the show has wrong things said about women. The people present there laughed at these comments, which makes it clear that their intention was not respectful towards women. The purpose of these videos was only to gain popularity and make money from indecent comments. It is legally wrong to make derogatory comments about any section of society, especially when the content is reaching children. Our job was to file a complaint; Now, it is up to the police and administration to take action.”

Public and influencer reactions

The controversy has led to strong reactions from fellow YouTubers and social media users. Popular YouTuber Gaurav Taneja, popularly known as Flying Beast, condemned the comment, posting on X (formerly Twitter):

“Looks like Samay Raina will agree only after getting the entire YouTube India banned.”

Many users have expressed their anger at Ranveer Allahabadia and Samay Raina, leading to widespread trolling and criticism on various social media platforms.

Conclusion

The controversy over India’s Got Latent highlights the ongoing debate about the fine line between comedy and offensiveness. While freedom of expression is a fundamental right, it also comes with responsibility, especially when content reaches millions of people. With legal proceedings underway, it remains to be seen what the consequences will be for the accused influencers. For now, Ranveer Allahabadia’s apology serves as an admission of wrongdoing, but is it enough to calm the public outrage? Enough is enough, it is uncertain.
