Parakram Diwas : The birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the great freedom fighter of India, is celebrated as ‘Parakram Diwas’ on 23 January. Biography of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose:
Born: 23 January 1897, in Cuttack, Odisha (then British India) in a distinguished family.
Education: Graduated from Presidency College, Kolkata, followed by passing the Indian Civil Service Examination from Cambridge University, United Kingdom.
Political life: Joined the Indian National Congress in 1921. Was elected Congress President in 1923, which was a significant achievement for the time.
During World War II: Fled from British India in 1941 and reached Germany. There he formed the Azad Hind Fauj (INA).
‘Delhi Chalo’ slogan: Netaji gave the slogan ‘Delhi Chalo’ and fought against British rule with the help of Azad Hind Fauj.
Death: He died under mysterious circumstances in Taiwan (then Formosa) on August 18, 1945.
