Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana 2025 Update
Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana 2025 Update : India’s centuries-old tradition of skilled craftsmanship is receiving a modern revival through the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana (PMVY). Launched on 17 September 2023, the scheme has quickly evolved into one of the largest government initiatives for artisans and craftsmen, blending heritage with innovation.
Record-Breaking Registrations and Applications
In less than two years, the scheme has attracted nearly 30 lakh verified registrations while total applications have crossed 2.7 crore, touching 99.8% of the national registration target. States such as Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are leading with the highest number of successful enrolments.
Massive Financial Support
Artisans no longer need to struggle for credit. Over 4.7 lakh collateral-free enterprise loans worth ₹41,188 crore have been sanctioned. Each eligible artisan can access up to ₹3 lakh in two stages—₹1 lakh initially and another ₹2 lakh after progress verification—at a concessional 5% interest rate, thanks to government interest subvention.
Skill Training and Toolkit Incentives

The scheme’s heart lies in skill development.
- 26 lakh artisans have completed skills verification.
- 86% have already finished basic training of 5–7 days, earning a stipend of ₹500 per day.
- Advanced training modules of 15 days or more are rolling out nationwide.
- Over 2.3 million e-vouchers have been issued for toolkits worth ₹15,000, ensuring artisans receive modern equipment to increase productivity.
Inclusivity and Women Empowerment
PM Vishwakarma specifically prioritizes women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, persons with disabilities, transgender people, and artisans from the North-East, hilly and island regions. By combining training, finance and market access, the scheme helps these communities compete on equal footing.
District-Level Outreach
To guarantee last-mile delivery, 497 District Project Management Units (DPMUs) now cover 618 districts. These units spread awareness, schedule training, and monitor implementation, making sure every artisan—urban or rural—has direct access to benefits.
Boost to MSMEs and Exports
Complementing GST rate cuts and MSME reforms, PM Vishwakarma strengthens small enterprises and improves India’s export potential. Digital transaction incentives—₹1 per eligible transaction up to 100 times per month—encourage artisans to adopt cashless payments and reach wider markets.
Challenges and Future Priorities
While the impact is impressive, some hurdles remain:
- Faster rollout of advanced training modules.
- Simplified loan disbursement where banks remain cautious.
- Expansion of training centres in remote regions.
- Streamlined Aadhaar-bank linkage for quicker verification.
A New Era for Traditional Crafts
The Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana is more than a welfare scheme—it is a nationwide movement to preserve India’s heritage while creating sustainable livelihoods. By recognising artisans as Vishwakarmas, providing collateral-free credit, and linking them to global markets, the initiative ensures that India’s timeless skills continue to thrive in the modern economy.
This ambitious programme shows how tradition and technology can grow together, empowering millions of artisans to transform their craft into a secure, competitive, and globally recognised enterprise.
